Elaine, Bronze team medal at the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games
Education and professional experience
With both parents passionately keen on sport, Elaine caught the competition bug at a very young age. Her father, Wolter Pen, was a proficient modern pentathlete, reaching reserve in the Dutch team for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. Her mother, Hélène Aubert, is a Dressage Champion who won the Silver team medal in the World Championships in Toronto, Canada and the Bronze team medal in the European Championships at Goodwood in England.
So Elaine found herself in the saddle as a very young child. Coached by her mother, the young Dutch girl very quickly acquired a solid grounding in dressage. But what she really loved was cross-country and so it was a natural next step to begin focusing on Eventing. At just 13 years old, Elaine took part in her first European Championships in Ireland in 2003. A number of European Championships were to follow, first in Pony and Junior events and then in Young Rider events, where she came 10th in the European Championships in 2010 in Pardubice with her top mare, Vira.
In 2011, at the age of 21, Elaine joined the senior squad for the Netherlands. The talented youngster’s progress and results were so good that she was selected to represent her country at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Building on this success, Elaine represented the Netherlands at the 2014 Alltech® FEI World Equestrian Games in Normandy at just 24 years old, winning team Bronze and coming 12th individually. In addition to her riding career, Elaine is studying law at Leiden University in the Netherlands.
Elaine & Audevard
“I used Tendilax on my horse on my vet’s recommendation and the results were more than satisfactory! That’s how I discovered Audevard. Since then, I’ve used a number of products from the range to keep my horses in top condition for major events. In particular, I use Zzen and the Balsamic respiratory range on a very regular basis.”
